Waalwege
Waalwege (ancient irrigation channels) are popular walking routes and paths alongside the channels that were originally used for the irrigation of fruit orchards. They frequently occur in the Vinschgau Valley, in the Passeier Valley and in the Burggrafenamt region, the areas that experience the lowest precipitation rates in South Tyrol. Waalwege are particularly suited to family outings as they have hardly any uphill slopes and the flowing water is a constant source of interest. They are accessible all year round and offer walkers wonderful views over the surrounding mountain landscape.
